Vic Sage (born Charles Victor Szasz, primarily known as The Question) serves as the primary protagonist in Justice League: Aftermath. He is a member of the Justice League, though he typically works on his own.

Appearance[]

Vic's true appearance is obscured by the pseudoderm mask worn over his face, hiding his features. He is presented as Caucasian with black hair, though it is unclear if this is accurate beyond his Question persona.

Vic wears a disheveled blue suit and fedora. His overcoat is worn almost falling off his shoulders, his darker blue vest is unbuttoned and unkempt, and his yellow-orange button up shirt is only halfway tucked in, and has coffee stains on the chest. His black tie is also poorly done. He wears black gloves and shoes, both of which have yellow-orange accents.

Personality[]

Vic is obsessive to a fault when coming across a case he deems worthy of investigation, and as such has several open-ended cases due to coming across new ones while in the midst of working on ones he already has open. It's also what has resulted in his unkempt outfit, putting more care into his work than he does his physical appearance.

Vic has some socially awkward tendencies, most notably how he will start conversations by speaking a piece of either very loosely related or only tangentially related piece of trivia to whatever situation he's walked into.

Despite his obsessive work habits and socially awkward commentary, Vic has managed to maintain a steady, albeit just as awkward at times, relationship with Huntress.

History[]

Ever since the deaths of the Big Three, Vic had been researching the circumstances surrounding the event.

In Case 1: Oswald Cobblepot, Vic broke into the Penguin's private quarters of the Iceberg Lounge to pay him off for information regarding the deaths of the Big Three. In doing so, he learned of LexCorp's potential involvement due to their research into Zod's ship. Unbeknownst to Vic as he left the establishment, he had been watched by a nearby sniper. Vic would later briefly have a rather awkward conversation with Aquaman and Mera near the statue of the Big Three, which would result in Vic hiding his true investigation under the guise of investigating aglets. The episode ended with Vic meeting his confidant Norbert Kitterman in Arkham Asylum, before having a prisoner visitation with The Joker.

In Case 2: Lex Luthor, Vic followed up on the Joker's advice that Lex Luthor was likely going to use the technology from Zod's ship for weapons manufacturing. He sent an anonymous tip to the Justice League about an upcoming LexCorp gala, which was then attended by Oliver Queen. The two met at the gala, Vic pretending to be an employee serving drinks to keep a low profile, where Vic revealed that him tipping off the League instead of just asking for help was a much easier way to ensure backup. Soon after the gala, Vic was ambushed by Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and Deathstroke, hired by Norbert.

Powers[]

  • Vic has a genius-level intellect. Similar to other detective members of the League, such as the late Batman, Vic uses this intelligence to look into investigations and notice patterns and clues that may be completely overlooked by others.
  • Vic is trained in a handful of martial art skills, making him decently viable in hand-to-hand combat.

Weaknesses[]

  • Vic has no superhuman abilities, and can be outclassed by villains (or other heroes, should the situation of fighting them come about) who do.
  • Vic's intelligence is only matched by his obsession, leading to him garnering the title of conspiracy theorist along with detective, as he will obsess over the tiniest of details when working on a case, even if some of them are irrelevant.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Vic's model art as made using Will Harangue's model from Ben 10: Omniverse.
