Team BLAC is a team from Beacon Academy, and is the eponymous team of BLAC. The team is comprised of Jethro Blackstone, Dani Lancer, Alana Apocrypha, Cody Drake.

Members[]

Jethro Blackstone[]

Jethro Blackstone, more commonly referred to as Jet, is the leader of Team BLAC. He is the half-brother of his teammate, Cody. Jet is initially stand-offish and socially awkward, and while that does tend to stay the case throughout the story, he certainly does become closer to both his team and Team JNPR. Jet wears a metal mask that covers the scars on his face. His weapon of choice is Self Infliction, a pair of spiky gauntlets which are primarily used in melee combat. Their name comes from the fact Jet can use the spikes on himself, the pain increasing his drive in battle. Jet's Semblance is Fatal Flattery. In short, when Jet sees someone's death, his Aura generates a copy of their Semblance in some regard. For a more in-depth elaboration on this Semblance, see Jet's entry on the Semblance page. Additionally, Jet has Silver Eyes, allowing him to access a magic which combats the Grimm. Between the Fall of Beacon and attack on Haven, Jet became the temporary leader of the informal Team BNJR, joined by Jaune Arc, Nora Valkyrie, and Lie Ren of Team JNPR.

Jet takes the place of Ruby Rose.

Dani Lancer[]

Dani Lancer is a former member of the White Fang. She is a Peacock Faunus, with her trait being her tailfeathers which were covered up by sashes in her outfit prior to the events of Volume 4. Dani has a fun-loving personality, though turns serious in events dealing with the White Fang, especially Adam Taurus. Dani's weapon is Master Lancer, a lancer which uses different types of Dust. Her Semblance also deals with Dust, Feather Dance. Dani can conduct Dust through her tailfeathers for combat. She can also channel Dust through the rest of her body, though this causes discomfort, and may also lower her Aura.

Dani takes the place of Blake Belladonna.

Alana Apocrypha[]

Alana Apocrypha is the former heiress to the Apocrypha Dust Company. Alana is quite outspoken regarding not connecting with her family, going so far as to intentionally scrap the white-and-blue color scheme the Apocrypha's wear, opting for a much more contrasting green, olive, and gold color scheme in her outfits. Alana's weapon is Weak Spot, a mask which lets her see the target's most likely weak point, as well as what type of Dust would be most effective against it. Her Semblance is known as Tactile Learning. While she can obtain random knowledge at random times, the Semblance's name comes from her ability to touch a person or object and gain knowledge regarding them. She can also create Projections of those she's slain to fight for her, or augment her body in some fashion.

Alana takes the place of Weiss Schnee.

Cody Drake[]

Cody Drake is the half-brother of Jet. Laid back, jokey, and flustered around Remnant's abundance of attractive women, Cody prefers to avoid fighting when possible. A way he achieves this is through his weapon, The Staff of Semblances. This Staff temporarily breaks the Aura of the person it hits; though this isn't enough to land a killing blow right after, it is enough to disorient them, and prevent the use of their Semblance for a short while. When Cody does fight, however, he can access his Semblance, Snow Owl, which grants him flight and heightened senses, as well as covering his weapon in ice. After the Fall of Beacon, Cody obtains a black and blue prosthetic arm courtesy of James Ironwood and Pietro Polendina.

Cody takes the place of Yang Xiao Long.

Trivia[]

  • The team's name plays off the term black. Similarly to Team RWBY, the Team's name plays homage to the leader's name.
  • The image in the infobox was made using a piccrew by grgikau. Each member being made by the person who plays them.
  • The individual team members' color name rule is as follows:
    • Overall, Jethro's name is a play on "jet black," Jethro Blackstone. The etymology of Jethro comes from a Hebrew word meaning "abundance," which could bring to mind abundance of food or land, bringing to mind numerous colors. Blackstone, obviously, brings to mind black, and different colors of stones.
    • Dani is short-hand for Daniela, the female version of the name Daniel, which means "God is my judge," which would bring to mind whites and golds. Lancer is a reference to a lance, like Dani's weapon, the metal nature of which would bring to mind greys.
    • Alana is derived from the High German term for "precious," which could be attributed to precious metals and stones. "Apocrypha" is a term for scriptures outside accepted biblical canon. The biblical apocrypha itself is red. The root of apocrypha means "to hide away," wihich could bring to mind blacks of shady areas. Its use as Alana's name refers to the realm of Hermaeus Mora, which is depicted as greens and browns in the Dragonborn DLC of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
    • Cody originally means help. This could be attributed to any colors associated with public services, such as blue, black, red, and white. "Drake" finds its origin with dragon (drawing more similarities to Yang, whose name roughly means "sunny little dragon"), bringing to mind reds, greens, whites, or blacks, colors primarily associated with dragons. A drake is also the adult male of any duck species.
  • Team BLAC's allusions are as follows:
    • Jethro's allusion is the Basilisk in mythology. The Basilisk is known to have caused death with a single glance. This parallels Jethro's Semblance in which he gains power from witnessing people die, gaining a copy of their Semblances.
    • Dani's allusion is Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2. Lord Shen is a peacock who caused a panda massacre. Dani, a peacock Faunus, works against the targeted racism at the Faunus, opposite Shen's targeted attacks.
    • Alana's allusion is Hermaeus Mora from The Elder Scrolls. Her Semblance allowing her to gain knowledge is a nod to Mora being the Daedric Lord of Knowledge. Her mask is a nod to that of Miraak, and color scheme a nod to the colors of Apocrypha.
    • Cody's allusion is Tim Drake from DC Comics. Aside from sharing the last name, both use a staff weapon, and are related to birds in some fashion (Cody's Semblance, and Tim being Robin).
